Koi disease

Listed below are common koi diseases and how they can be identified. If you have any concerns always call a vet. Characteristics of Koi Diseases 

Fish Lice

If the gills are infected this can be very serious. Your koi will scratch and jump.

Dropsy

Your koi will be pine cone shaped with raised scales and the eyes standing out. This can also be an indication of kidney or heart problems.

 

Costia

This is a parasite problem and you will notice your koi not moving a lot, rubbing, and with clamped fins. The skin maybe grew white.

Anchor Worm

This can lead to secondary bacterial and fungal infections.

Cotton Wool

These can lead to ulcers and you will notice white tufts on the body, around the mouth and fins.

Fin Rot and Ulcers

The fins and tails will look chewed with red edges. This can lead to ulcers and fungal infections.

White Spot

These will appear on the skin, gills and fin and you will notice your koi not miving much, not feeding, and scratching.

Saprolegina Fungus

Can appear anywhere on the koi and look like cotton like growths and the fish maybe near the surface gasping for air.

Skin and Gill Flukes

You koi will start scratching and will becomes distressed.

Koi fish care requires you to identify your sick koi early on to allow for effective treatment for the koi disease.
