Koi fish breeding - How to breed koi
Their are many Koi Varieties, once the koi variety has been chosen you must select the
right male and female koi. It is common for the koi to be between 4-5 years
old. They then have to be kept healthy for about
a year, during this period they will be groomed for breeding.
During the winter where the koi hibernate Feeding Koi should
be very minimal. After this the chosen koi should be moved to a ‘spawn’ tank or
pond and it is common for two male koi to be placed with a female koi.
You have to ensure that the environment is just right with
privacy, the right water quality, a place for the eggs to be laid, and
temperature being satisfactory. The temperature should be between 16 and 22 degrees Celsius. The temperature
has to be just right as if it is too high or too low mutations can occur.
Once the eggs have been laid the parents or eggs will need
to be removed from the ‘spawn’ pond or tank. Good eggs will be transparent
while those that are not will be white. Once the ‘fry’ have hatched temperatures of 21 to 24 degrees
Celsius have help the grow. Regular feeding of your koi will ned to be undertaken to ensure they stay fit and healthy.
